Two loop trails to discover the most beautiful lakes in Umbria: Lake Trasimeno and Lake Corbara
Route 1 – Shortly after leaving the town of Umbertide, you will have to tackle the first of two long climbs. This climb leads to Colle Campana and it can be very demanding: it is 15 km long with an average gradient of 5%, a gentle descent of 2 km after 8 km and three final ascents in the last km which reach a gradient of 10%. Once on the top, you will enjoy a spectacular view of the Umbrian-Marchean Apennines on the left and Lake Trasimeno on the right. From there, you can descend towards the lake riding through an uphill and downhill stretch. After the descent, you will go through Passignano and then arrive in Tuoro. There, you can visit the historical setting of the Battle of Trasimeno which reconstructs the battle in which the Romans were defeated by Hannibal. Then there is the second and last climb of 6 km towards the Gasparini Pass and finally, you will descend towards the valley of Niccone and reach the end of the descent in Umbertide.
Route 2 – It starts from Orvieto, one of the most renowned cities in Central Italy with an incredibly rich artistic heritage. After only 1.5 km, there is the first climb of 8 km. It is not too demanding and it leads to Colonnetta di Prodo. The road continues downhill for 4 km and then ascends again through beautiful pastures and woods towards the village of Prodo. After you pass the turn-off for Todi, there is a 3.5 km climb which leads to the village. We recommend visiting its historic centre. After Todi, the trail continues uphill for 15 km towards Civitella del Lago, a village renowned for its splendid position overlooking the lake. You can then proceed towards Orvieto, going downhill through Corbara and its suggestive dam.
