Each switchback brings to mind the names of great cycling champions, such as that of Fausto Coppi who here in Pordoi had no rivals, always managing to outdo his opponents. On countless occasions this climb decided the fate of the Giro d’Italia. See for yourself!
As it is a mountain pass, it can be climbed from two directions, west from Canazei and east from Arabba. We recommend the climb from Canazei, where the road ascends for 13 kilometres with an average gradient of 6% distributed over 28 winding switchbacks that cut through Alpine meadows and shady pine forests. From this side the view is more spectacular, as cyclists can enjoy a breathtaking view over the Sella Group.
