Day 1: Arrival at Bologna airport and transfer to Riccione

Arrive in the afternoon in the city of Riccione and settle into your hotel. You may have brought your own bike or chosen to rent one of ours. We’ll ensure everything is prepared for your journey. Over a welcome drink, we’ll discuss the cycling itineraries planned for the upcoming days.

Day 2: Pesaro and Monte San Bartolo Panoramic Road

Today, we’ll cycle through the Monte San Bartolo Regional Natural Park, an enchanting promontory that gently slopes toward the Adriatic Sea, connecting Gabicce to Pesaro. We’ll also visit the vintage bicycle museum in Pesaro.

Day 3: The Republic of San Marino, the ancient land of Liberty

Today’s route includes the scenic climbs of the Romagna hills, leading to the Independent Republic of San Marino, known for centuries as the “Land of the Free.” At the start of our journey, we’ll catch sight of San Marino’s three iconic towers and pedal through its historic center, stopping to take photos of the magnificent coastal views. The day will end with a delicious outdoor lunch near Riccione.

Day 4: In the lands of the Malatesta family

This magnificent itinerary takes us through rolling hills and charming medieval villages. During a morning cappuccino break in the picturesque village of Saludecio, known as the “Balcony on the Adriatic Sea,” you’ll hear stories about the famous Malatesta family and their intense rivalries and passions with the Montefeltro family in the Middle Ages.

Day 5: Transfer to Murlo, Tuscany

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll depart for Tuscany, arriving at our hotel in the afternoon. Over a welcome drink, we’ll discuss the upcoming cycling routes.

Day 6: Cycling through the Val d'Orcia

Pienza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is renowned for its splendid and meticulously preserved Renaissance architecture. As we cycle through this region, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the countryside. After passing the charming medieval village of Buonconvento, we’ll climb toward the Val d’Orcia and continue to Pienza for a coffee break before returning.

Day 7: Towards Montalcino

We head toward Montalcino, an area famed for its unique microclimate, giving distinct characteristics to the celebrated Rosso di Montalcino wine. The route includes paved roads and dirt tracks, with scenic views and charming villages along the way. We’ll stop at a winery on the return for a tasting of local wines and gastronomic specialties before heading back to the hotel.

Day 8: Magical Siena

This morning, we’ll leave Murlo heading northeast through the enchanting Tuscan countryside. Riding on roads lined with vineyards, olive groves, and rolling hills, we’ll arrive in Siena by late morning for a coffee break. Siena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous for its medieval architecture and the iconic horse races held in Piazza del Campo, the main square. There will be time to explore the city and enjoy lunch at a local trattoria before we return to the hotel by minibus.

Day 9: Transfer to the Island of Elba

After breakfast and check-out, we set off toward the Mediterranean coast, about a 1.5-hour drive. A ferry crossing of approximately one hour will bring us to Portoferraio, our base for the next few days.

Day 10: Cycling towards Capoliveri

Starting from Portoferraio, the island’s largest town and main ferry port, we head south towards the beautiful Lacona peninsula. Cycling along sandy beaches and rocky coves, we’ll enjoy views of the clear Tyrrhenian Sea waters. We’ll return via the charming hilltop village of Capoliveri. While this section includes some climbs, the panoramic views make it well worth the effort.

Day 11: Cycling to the island of Elba

Today, we explore the island’s western side, cycling along coastal roads with views of the picturesque countryside on one side and turquoise waters on the other. The route presents a challenging mix of climbs and descents. We’ll stop in the scenic coastal towns of Marina di Campo and Marciana Marina, each with a picturesque port, before returning to the hotel in time for lunch.

Day 12: Porto Azzurro

On our final day on the island, we head northeast toward Porto Azzurro, known for its colorful buildings and beautiful waterfront promenade. We’ll explore the town and enjoy a coffee break by the sea. Along the way, we’ll stop at Rio Elba, one of the island’s oldest and most well-preserved settlements, dating back to the Bronze Age.

Day 13: Return

After breakfast and check-out, we’ll head back to the mainland for evening flights or further adventures in Italy.
