This is the mountain of those who know how to love it, of Marco Pantani, the famous “pirate” who dreamed about it and of those who have decided to take on its challenge one, two, three, countless times. Marco Pantani, born at sea level in Cesenatico, who became one of the greatest climbers in the history of cycling used to say: “the Carpegna is enough for me”. Because it is right here that Marco Pantani trained for his victories: 6 km from the town of Carpegna (at an elevation of 750 m above sea level) with an average gradient of 10%; the last two km known as the “Cippo” are steep, with a gradient around 12%.
