Crocedomini Pass… where every gram of excess weight comes at a price

We wouldn’t be at all surprised if you hadn’t heard of Crocedomini Pass; its popularity isn’t comparable to that of the giants of the Dolomites, but it’s every bit as good. An Alpine crossing of the Central Alps, Crocedomini Pass is a real challenge, where you have to ration your exertion, measure distances and push hard because the gradients don’t let up until you reach the summit, and every gram of excess weight comes at a price.

Description

The name reflects the extreme exertion required for a climb that starts in Bienno, at an altitude of 445 metres, and reaches the summit at 1,892 metres after an 18.5 kilometre ascent. It’s not by chance that Crocedomini is considered “hors catégorie”, or rather, climbs you should do at least once in your life. From Bienno the gradients exceed 10% rather quickly, and fluctuate constantly between 8% and 9% for the length of the ascent.
