Buca del Bandito: The route is not very long, that is true, but the fact that you can ride it again and again is guaranteed fun.
When you think of an island, you immediately think of perfect beaches where you can relax in the baking hot sun and admire the bluest sea. Well, the island of Elba is a land full of surprises even for mountain bikers such as the Capoliveri Bike Park which has 5 permanent routes. We recommend the Calamita route that will amaze you with its panoramic views overlooking the blue sea surrounded by nature. You will be able to feel the wind from up there, high above the sea among granite rocks and wild rosemary bushes.
Also on the Island of Elba you can find the Elba Gravity Park which in recent years has proved to be an a real Mecca for the studded tyre lovers thanks to its really mild climate that allows you to ride all year round. Here you can find at the moment 8 routes (still being developed) of varying difficulty. The area is located around the villages of Rio nell’Elba, Bagnaia, Rio Marina and Cava, and partly touches the slopes of Volterraio and Monte Panche. The trails were created from ancient footpaths and mule tracks and then equipped with appropriate signage. You can quickly switch from smooth single-track trails to steep rocky mule tracks, but the highlight is being completely surrounded by the stunning panoramic sea views and Mediterranean scrub.
If you are looking for a fast, but challenging trail you have found it. The buca del bandito is a fast trail through a dense wood between Volterraio to the north, with Cima del Monte and Campo della Valle – to the south. There are not many obstacles such as rocks and roots, but the soft ground during the warmer months makes the ride more difficult. Are you ready to tackle curves, counter curves, cross streams and switchbacks?
