For those who do cycling on the roads and ride along the “specialissima”, Elba Island will be an unforgettable memory of a unique, all-encompassing experience. Bike rides will never bore you, whether you ride alone or in the company of others. Bikers can take short 1-hour trips along the coastline, or engage in more challenging, 6/7-hour rides.
A must for any road rider: the 43-kilometre western route that goes from the Hotel dei Coralli, at sea level, up to the town of Marciana at 375 metres above sea level and winds up and down under the shade of chestnut trees, until it reaches the Costa del Sole, a path right on top a sea-side cliff affording fabulous views of Corsica and the Montecristo and Pianosa islands. Mere words can hardly describe the thrills of this route.
The astounding landscapes and the trails for both experts and beginners make up the ideal recipe for simple explorers as well as for those seeking an adrenaline-rich experience. As they climb up Monte Perone, they will run into mountain-like flora, but turning the other way they will look out to the entire Tuscan Archipelago.
